Each June 27, the KFF’s Greater Than HIV / Walgreens National HIV Community Partnership (NHCP) brings hundreds of health departments and community organizations into participating Walgreens stores to provide FREE HIV testing and counseling as part of the largest National HIV Testing Day event in the nation.
The results are in! This year’s activation had the highest number of participating Walgreens stores since it began in 2011.
On June 27, 2023, 267 NHCP testing partners were in 443 Walgreens stores in 273 cities in 36 states, plus DC and Puerto Rico. Collectively, they provided 5,186 FREE rapid HIV tests and had 18,500+ one-on-one interactions with individuals in stores that day!* Testing partners also made referrals to PrEP and HIV care, some offered Hepatitis C testing and distributed HIV self-tests, and together handed out tens of thousands of informational materials on the latest on prevention and treatment.
Health departments and community organizations report that being a part of the NHCP goes well beyond NHTD. “[The NHCP] is so important to our organization as it allows us to engage with our community on a wider level. It helps us to increase access to care for those who are unaware of our services or have difficulty accessing our physical location during our open hours.
