National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2012

National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is March 10. Celebrities including Vanessa Williams, Shaun Robinson, Essence Atkins, Yvette Nicole Brown, Tamala Jones, MC Lyte, Naturi Naughton and Tamara Taylor are joining with Greater Than AIDS to bring attention to the impact of HIV/AIDS among women:

Women have been affected by HIV/AIDS since the beginning of the epidemic, an impact that has grown over time and disproportionately affects Black women, who account for more than two thirds of new infections occurring among women in the U.S. In partnership with Community Education Group, Greater Than AIDS is mobilizing women and girls to increase knowledge about HIV/AIDS and confront the stigma surrounding the disease.

You can help spread the message by incorporating Greater Than AIDS into your National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day activities on March 10. Order or download FREE special National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day promotional materials from Greater Than AIDS and use them to spread the message. You can also share the Greater Than AIDS celebrity Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day video with the women in your life. Additional educational materials are available for download from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new HIV testing campaign for women, “Take Charge. Take the Test.”

This year’s theme for National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is “Every Moment is a Deciding Moment.” Deciding Moments are everyday opportunities to take a stand against HIV – to be “greater than” the disease. Watch Yvonne, 25, describe her Deciding Moment to teach others about HIV/AIDS:

A deciding moment may be walking into a clinic and asking to be tested, buying (and using) condoms, correcting a piece of misinformation, talking with your child, or keeping up with your medications. Through these simple acts, we help to stop the spread of HIV. And, by each of us doing our part, we can collectively change the course of this epidemic.

Join the movement:

>Share your Deciding Moment: Upload a photo, video or text describing the simple acts you’ve taken to be Greater Than AIDS.

>Host a Deciding Moments photo station: This is a memorable, interactive way to be Greater Than AIDS. If you send us the Deciding Moments photos after the event we will even post them to our Facebook community of more than 150,000 fans!
