There are more options than ever to prevent and treat HIV. The first step is knowing your status. Make testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) a part of your routine health care.
For those who don’t have HIV, PrEP offers another powerful means of protection. When taken as prescribed, this daily pill is highly effective at protecting against HIV. While highly effective in preventing HIV, PrEP does not protect against other STDs. Condoms can be used for added protection.
A person diagnosed with HIV today who is on ongoing antiretroviral (ARV) treatment can live a normal, healthy lifespan, and have children without HIV. In addition to improving health, ARVs also prevent the spread of the virus.
