PrEP & PEP
What’s the difference?
Both protect against HIV!
PrEP – Pre-exposure prophylaxis
PrEP provides ongoing protection against HIV.
PrEP is like birth control but for HIV…it’s taken every day.
PEP – Post-exposure prophylaxis
PEP is intended for emergency situations only.
PEP must begin within 72 hours of possible exposure to HIV and be continued for 28 days.
Both require a prescription from a healthcare provider.
