Clinicians, doctors have all kinds of preconceived notions about what people are willing to talk about.
When I’m talking to someone and I’m working with them to do their annual physical, “Hey, did you know that there’s one tablet once a day that can protect people from getting infected with HIV?”
If they say no, I teach them more about it.
It has nothing to do with their sexual history. I just tell them because they should know that this exists because it’s transformative.
And sometimes the people who can most benefit from PrEP are not the people coming into my office for their annual visit.
Sometimes though, it’s their seventy-year-old grandmother. And I told her about PrEP and she says, “You know what, I have a grandbaby, who needs to know about this.”
And, she goes and tells her grandson or her grandchild. That’s a win.
